West Ashley homes for sale (29414 & 29407) is technically Charleston SC, but to locals it’s West Ashley because it is just that;
west of the Ashley River. West Ashley is just on the other side of downtown Charleston, SC and has some great little neighborhoods with properties for sale that could suit just about anyone. If a beach is what you are looking for it’s about 20 mins to Folly Beach and 30 mins to Isle of Palms or Sullivan’s Island depending on the traffic. Mostly comprised of older homes, West Ashley has seen a resurgence of investment in real estate and home buying as it is more affordable than Mount Pleasant, and James Island, but still close enough to town. If it’s a new house you seek, West Ashley usually does not have tons of options from builders. Closer to downtown Charleston, SC there are many “like new” houses that investors have begun to purchase and renovate. The West Ashley part of Charleston is located on the Ashley Cooper River and as such there are quite a few waterfront homes, townhouses, and a few condos for sale and lots for sale on riverfront as well. For the golfers unfortunately there is only one country club community in West Ashley and that is Shadowmoss, but the good news is that is is one of the most affordable in the tri-county area. The problem is, the area is very low land (hence Charleston’s nick name “low-country”) and as such the community has recently seen a problem with significant flooding when we get large amounts of rain.
